OUR HISTORY
In 2002, József Kreinbacher’s vision extended beyond the purchase of a few hectares of vineyards at Somló: to produce not only wines, but also – for the first time in the wine region – bottle-fermented and aged sparkling wines. The patience and maximalism he has is necessary to produce méthode traditionnelle sparkling wine, and for the development of the Estate.
By now the Estate covers 60 hectares of vines cultivated in organic farming and in addition to this, the team harvests grapes from another 20-30 hectares each year. We pay great attention to the state of the plantations (vineyards), the biodiversity and replanting of the vines. In addition to the main Somló grape varieties such as Juhfark, Furmint, Olaszrizling and Hárslevelű, Syrah and Chardonnay were also planted, which also found their home here.
2011 represents a remarkable milestone, the year when the new headquarters, winery and sparkling wine cellars were completed. Inspired by the former lava flows and basalt rocks of the volcanic mountain, the buildings designed by Dezső Ekler, have become iconic and merged with the image of Somló.
In 2014 Kreinbacher Estate introduced the very first sparkling wines elaborated here, thus proving the founder's belief that the wine region has a place on the sparkling wine world map.
From 2015, rooms with a unique atmosphere await those who want to explore Somló. For years, our bistro, which has been ranked among the TOP 10 restaurants in the countryside and received a Michelin recommendation in 2022, has become a popular destination for those interested in refined gastronomy. During our guided estate tours, we present the steps of méthode traditionnelle.
Our rooms and Bistro have been closed since 31 October, 2024, as part of a comprehensive development. 43 rooms will be created instead of the current 15, and the Estate will be expanded with wellness services and a modern conference facility.
ESTATE TOUR AND WINE TASTING, VINEYARD TOUR
Somló is waiting for you with the wines of the unique terroir and a special scenery characterized by the volcanic basalt rocks and the modern architecture of the winery.
This program offers you a great opportunity to learn the secrets of the „méthode traditionnelle”, the process how sparkling wine is fermented and aged in bottles. Of course, we also provide an opportunity for wine and sparkling wine tasting at the end of the estate tour.
Estate tour with 6-item wine and sparkling wine tasting: HUF 10,000/person
Estate tour without tasting HUF 4,500/person
The prices are for the participation of 6 people and include approx. 2.5-hour professional guide in the winery, the tasting (if selected), as well as a baguette and mineral water. Please take into consideration, that under 6 participants, a fee of HUF 27000 and in case of tasting of 6 items an additional amount of HUF 5500/person will be charged.
On request from 10 people, we can also offer a special tasting line based on prior agreement.
You can join the guided tours every Friday and Saturday at 3 p.m based on only prior reservation. The winery is closed on Sundays.
Please, consider that the winery is a worksite, so children under the age of 10 are not allowed to visit. Thank you for your understanding.
You are also welcome to join our vineyard tour and discover the most picturesque sights of the Somló Hill like the basalt formation called Kőkonyha that offers beautiful panorama, the ancient Taposó-kút well, the St. Ilona and St. Margit chapels. On request you can also visit our historical wine exhibition and the authentically renovated vintner’ houses.
